Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage / insurance provided by private companies that have been approved by Medicare. Starting Jan 1, 2006, new Medicare prescription coverage will be available to everyone with Medicare. This drug coverage may help lower prescription drug costs and help protect against higher costs in the future.

Note: The next enrollment period is November 15 to Dec 31, 2006. However, coverage for people who enroll during this period will not take effect until January 1, 2007.
